Jazz has had a rocky past in Bamberg. Today, it is firmly rooted in townlife, luring national and international names to the city every year. In the post-war era, jazz lovers marched through the town in a very disorganised, but all the more enthusiastic manner. At the beginning of the seventies, interest in jazz waned, only to receive new life after a newspaper ad appealed to "all jazz lovers to make themselves known". This marked the beginnings of the Jazz Club, which created a counter-pole to orchestra and chamber music. From September to May, the club invites international, national and local jazz stars to Bamberg, with additional open-air events taking place in June and July. |
