The source of the "U" The "Mahr's" brewery, which was first mentioned in a document in 1670, has been in the hands of the Michel family since 1895 and produces a diversity of different beers: Pils and "Hell" (light full beer), a light beer from the tap, a wheat beer which like champagne is fermented in the bottle, Gig, a malty "Coachman's beer" and a "White bock" (fairly dark strong wheat beer) and a "Light Bock", both available at the beginning of the winter. The beer selection is crowned by the naturally cloudy "Ungespundetes", an unfiltered beer which is still served from a wooden barrel both at the inn and during the summer in the beer garden. The tasty "U", as it is known, is not only a treat for the tastebuds but it also has the advantage that, no matter how many mugs you have drunk, you will never have a problem ordering the next without slurring your speech, as all you have to say are the two vowels "a U", pronounced "a oo" and the waiter knows exactly what you mean.
