Bamberg's state archives are responsible for all archiving questions in Upper Franconia (with the exception of the town itself and the region in and around Coburg). Based on an historical administrative district, it has been allocated the territories located in the eastern part of Franconia - above all, the bishopric of Bamberg and the former margravate Brandenburg-Kulmbach-Bayreuth, which went to Bavaria at the beginning of the 19th century. The State Archives currently contain around 2.3 million units, including around 75,000 documents and 18,000 maps and plans. The entire contents cover almost 21,000 metres. |
