The mediaeval St. Elisabeth's Church and the stately town houses around St. Elisabeth's Square form the historical setting for the Advent Market in the Sand, Bamberg's oldest district. On the first weekend of Advent two dozen craftsmen and women gather to sell their Christmas wares.

The Christmas fare is homemade and really quite special, reminding many visitors of their childhood days during the Christmas season in Franconia.

Highlights of the Advent Market include the evening concerts in St. Elisabeth's Church.
